Atelier des Ors — 'Workshop of Golds' — was founded in Paris in 2015 by Marie Salamagne, one of the most accomplished active perfumers in the industry (also creator of Black Opium for YSL, Mugler's Aura, and several landmark compositions). Salamagne's vision was a house that placed gold — the most universally precious material — at the heart of the fragrance proposition: 24-carat gold micro-particles are suspended in every Atelier des Ors fragrance, creating a subtle luminous quality on skin that no other house replicates. Beyond the gold, Salamagne's creative philosophy is one of rigorous quality: only the finest raw materials at concentrations that justify the luxury positioning.
Marie Salamagne serves as the primary creative force at Atelier des Ors, working with other perfumers including Dorothée Piot and Sophie Labbé for specific compositions. Blanc Polychrome (2015) — the house's debut — uses bergamot, white musks, ambrette, and gold particles to create a luminous white transparency that immediately established the house's identity. Aube Dorée (Dawn of Gold, 2015) — bergamot, gardenia, iris, and white musk — is the house's most floral statement. Nuda Veritas (2016) — rhubarb, rose, oud, amber, and gold — bridges the Western floral with Eastern oriental heritage.
Blanc Polychrome (2015) is the house's most celebrated and artistically coherent composition — a white, luminous transparency achieved through bergamot, white musks, ambrette, and suspended gold particles that creates a fragrance of ethereal quality. The gold literally appears on skin as a subtle shimmer that other wearers perceive as the person's natural luminosity. Riviera Shade (2018) — bergamot, jasmine, magnolia, and ambergris — is beloved for its Mediterranean warmth. Nuda Veritas (2016) has attracted significant attention from fragrance connoisseurs for its intelligent bridging of Western and Eastern traditions through rhubarb-rose and oud.
Atelier des Ors occupies ultra-premium niche — EDPs from €200-€300 for 100ml — with the gold micro-particle proposition adding a tangible luxury dimension unavailable at any price from other houses. For the fragrance enthusiast who wants their house to have done something genuinely unprecedented with the luxury fragrance form, Atelier des Ors is a compelling answer.

Atelier des Ors — Common Questions
Who founded Atelier des Ors?
Atelier des Ors was founded in Paris in 2015 by Marie Salamagne — one of the most accomplished active perfumers in the industry, also creator of YSL's Black Opium, Mugler's Aura, and Alien (with Dominique Ropion). Her vision was a house centred on 24-carat gold micro-particles suspended in every fragrance — creating genuine luminosity on skin — combined with the finest raw materials at premium concentrations.
What is the gold in Atelier des Ors fragrances?
Every Atelier des Ors fragrance contains suspended 24-carat gold micro-particles that create a subtle luminous shimmer on skin. When applied, the gold appears as a barely perceptible shimmer that others perceive as the wearer's natural skin luminosity rather than visible glitter. This innovation — genuine gold in a luxury fragrance — has no equivalent at any price point from any other fragrance house.
What is Blanc Polychrome?
Blanc Polychrome (2015) is the house's debut and most celebrated composition — a white, luminous transparency of bergamot, white musks, ambrette, and gold particles. 'White Polychrome' — the idea that white contains all colours — reflects Marie Salamagne's philosophy that the most transparent compositions contain the most layers. It is simultaneously one of the cleanest and most complex fragrances in contemporary niche perfumery.
How does Atelier des Ors compare to Xerjoff and By Kilian?
All three sit at the ultra-premium niche tier at comparable price points, but with different unique propositions. Xerjoff has the most beautiful hand-crafted crystal flacons. By Kilian has the most sophisticated refillable system and narrative concepts. Atelier des Ors has the only gold micro-particles in fine fragrance — a tangible luxury innovation that is literally visible on skin. Marie Salamagne's credentials as an active creator of commercial masterworks give Atelier des Ors' compositions a craft authority comparable to any house.
Can I try Atelier des Ors fragrances as samples?
Yes — The Scent Stories® stocks authentic Atelier des Ors samples and miniatures including Blanc Polychrome, Riviera Shade, Nuda Veritas, and more. All are factory-sealed and brand-packaged, shipped worldwide. Sampling is particularly rewarding with Atelier des Ors — the gold micro-particles are only visible on skin, and the full experience of the house's proposition requires application rather than smelling from a strip.
