About Christopher Sheldrake
Christopher Sheldrake is a perfumer best known for his long partnership with Serge Lutens. A placement at Charabot in Grasse in the 1970s drew him into perfumery, and Georges Cœur took him on as an apprentice. He joined Quest in 1984 and spent five years working in Japan from 1987. He met Lutens in Tokyo in 1989. In 2005 he became perfumer and head of fragrance research at a historic Paris couture house, a role he held until 2025.
His Lutens work is known for dense, warm compositions built on amber, spice, woods and resins. Féminité du Bois (1992) was the first major result of the partnership. Ambre Sultan followed in 1993, and Chergui, named after a desert wind, arrived in 2001. Later releases include Five O'Clock au Gingembre (2008) and La Fille de Berlin (2012). The collaboration has produced close to 100 fragrances.
