About François Demachy
François Demachy is a French perfumer, born in Cannes and raised in Grasse, where his father ran a pharmacy. He studied medicine before turning to perfumery and began at Charabot in 1971. He trained under Jean Cavallier and Henri Robert. He then spent many years as director of research and development at a major Paris fashion house. In 2006 he became perfumer-creator at a historic couture house within LVMH, retiring from that role in 2021.
Demachy says no single ingredient should dominate a blend, and he aims for a feeling of roundness. He favours patchouli and amber, and his work helped revive raw material production in Grasse. Outside couture, he created Tiffany (1987) for Tiffany & Co. and Vivara (2007) and Miss Pucci (2010) for Emilio Pucci. He also worked for Acqua di Parma, including Gelsomino Nobile (2011), and Fendi. The Fragrance Foundation honoured him as Lifetime Achievement Perfumer in 2022.
Outside his couture-house role, François Demachy created Tiffany (1987), Emilio Pucci Vivara (2007) and Miss Pucci (2010). He also worked on Acqua di Parma Gelsomino Nobile (2011) and Fan di Fendi.
