About Gabriela Chelariu
Gabriela Chelariu is a principal perfumer at dsm-firmenich, based in New York. She grew up in a small town in Romania and studied pharmacy. In her final year she worked in an aroma-chemicals research lab, and a visit to Grasse settled her career choice. She moved to the United States in 2000 as a perfumer's lab assistant and trained as a perfumer. At Firmenich she worked alongside her former mentor, Honorine Blanc.
Chelariu says nature is her main inspiration, rooted in her grandmother's garden of peonies, lilies and linden. She names blackcurrant bud, neroli and vetiver as the materials that describe her. Her credited work includes Maze for Liberty London, which grew from a personal accord of orange flower, musk and Ambrox. She also created Ralph Lauren Romance Eau de Parfum Intense and Kayali Silk Santal 36.
