About Sophie Labbé
Sophie Labbé is a French perfumer who grew up between Paris and Charente-Maritime, where her father made wine. She earned a chemistry degree and then trained at ISIPCA. Meeting perfumer Jean Kerléo in 1985 convinced her to pursue perfumery. She spent five years at Givaudan and 27 years at IFF, then joined dsm-firmenich in 2019 as a principal perfumer. In 2005 she became the first woman to win the Prix François Coty.
Labbé is known for blending contrasts and for her white florals, such as jasmine and tuberose. She compares composing a perfume to gardening, which takes patience and a skilful hand. Her first major commercial hit was Givenchy Organza (1996). She later created Hugo Boss Boss Woman (2000) and Salvatore Ferragamo Signorina (2011). Recent work includes Elie Saab Girl of Now (2017) and Versace Pour Femme Dylan Turquoise (2020).
