About Stéphane Humbert Lucas
Stéphane Humbert Lucas is a French painter and perfumer. He studied painting in the south of France with a Flemish master, specialising in tempera. He has synaesthesia, so colours trigger smells for him, and he began mixing colours as a way to create scents. Until 2013 he was in-house perfumer for Nez à Nez and SoOud.
His own line, Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777, debuted at Esxence in 2013. His perfumes are dense and slow to unfold. Many draw on his trips to the Middle East and on rich materials such as oud, ambergris and incense. Best-known works include Khôl de Bahreïn (2013), Black Gemstone (2013), Mortal Skin (2015), Taklamakan (2016) and God of Fire.
