Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana met in 1980 while working for Milanese designer Giorgio Correggiari and founded their own label in 1985, debuting at Milan Fashion Week in January 1986. The partnership — for many years personally as well as professionally intertwined — forged a creative vision grounded in their shared Sicilian heritage: excess, sensuality, religious iconography, and the unapologetic celebration of the Italian South. Their fashion became global shorthand for Mediterranean glamour, worn by Monica Bellucci, Madonna, and Kylie Minogue. The perfume business has become one of the most profitable aspects of their empire, operated under a licensing partnership with Procter & Gamble.
The D&G fragrance programme employs perfumers of the highest calibre. Light Blue (2001) was created by Olivier Cresp — the same perfumer responsible for Angel and Acqua di Giò — using Sicilian cedrat lemon, Granny Smith apple, bamboo, jasmine, white rose, cedar, and musk to create the definitive Mediterranean summer fragrance. The One (2006) and The One for Men (2008) were created by Loc Dong and Michel Almairac respectively, establishing a richer, more oriental counterpoint to Light Blue's aquatic freshness. K by Dolce & Gabbana (2019) was a collaboration with Alberto Morillas.
Light Blue (2001) is the house's defining commercial achievement — one of the bestselling fragrances in history, with Scarlett Johansson and David Gandy as faces across multiple campaigns. Its sequel Light Blue Forever (2021) introduced a warmer base for cooler months. The One (2006) — a softer floral-oriental of bergamot, lychee, lily, and tobacco — became the house's prestige feminine. The One Gentleman (2010) brings together grapefruit, basil, ginger, and tobacco leaf in a composition beloved by male fragrance enthusiasts for its unusual character. K by Dolce & Gabbana, a vertiver-iris-leather masculine, demonstrated the house's ability to create genuinely sophisticated compositions beyond Light Blue's commercial template.
Dolce & Gabbana occupies accessible luxury — EDPs ranging from €65-€110 — directly comparable to Versace and Coach, but with stronger Italian brand heritage. Their customer appreciates glamour and sunlit sensuality over minimalism or restraint.

Dolce & Gabbana — Common Questions
When was Dolce & Gabbana founded?
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana met in 1980 while working for Milanese designer Giorgio Correggiari and founded their own label in 1985, debuting at Milan Fashion Week in January 1986. Their shared Sicilian heritage became the creative foundation of the brand — a celebration of excess, sensuality, and Italian southern culture. The fragrance business, operated under P&G licensing, became a major revenue stream from the early 2000s.
What is Dolce & Gabbana's most famous fragrance?
Light Blue (2001), created by Olivier Cresp, is one of the bestselling fragrances in history — a Mediterranean fresh composition of Sicilian cedrat, apple, bamboo, and jasmine that became the definitive summer scent for two decades. Scarlett Johansson and David Gandy starred in its iconic Sicilian coastal campaigns. The One (2006) is the house's prestige feminine, an elegant floral-oriental of bergamot, lychee, lily, and magnolia.
Who creates Dolce & Gabbana fragrances?
D&G fragrances are created by leading independent perfumers working under P&G's licencing structure. Olivier Cresp — responsible for Angel (Mugler) and Acqua di Giò (Armani) — created the seminal Light Blue. Michel Almairac created The One for Men. Alberto Morillas, one of perfumery's most decorated artists, created K by Dolce & Gabbana in 2019. Loc Dong created The One feminine.
How does Dolce & Gabbana compare to Giorgio Armani in fragrance?
Both occupy the accessible luxury segment at comparable prices. Giorgio Armani tends toward minimalist elegance — Acqua di Giò is clean and restrained; D&G is more exuberant and Mediterranean in character — Light Blue is vivid and sunlit. Armani's Si has greater sophistication than D&G's feminine equivalents, but The One competes admirably. D&G wins on summer fragrances; Armani on year-round wearables.
Can I try Dolce & Gabbana fragrances before buying?
Yes — The Scent Stories® stocks authentic D&G samples, miniatures, and tester bottles including Light Blue, The One, K by Dolce & Gabbana, Light Blue Forever, and more. All are factory-sealed and brand-packaged, shipped worldwide. Sampling is particularly useful with D&G because their range spans dramatically different styles — from the aquatic freshness of Light Blue to the rich oriental of The One.
