Sol de Janeiro is a Brazilian-inspired beauty brand founded in New York in 2015 by Heela Yang and Marc Capra, celebrating the joyful, sensorial beauty culture of Brazil — particularly the Rio de Janeiro beach lifestyle of warm sun, coconut oil, açaí, and carefree body care rituals. The brand's Brazilian Bum Bum Cream — a caramelised body cream using açaí and cupuaçu butter — became a viral sensation, generating enormous social media attention for its distinctive vanilla-caramel-pistachio-jasmine scent that wearers described as addictive. The success of Bum Bum Cream directly led to the fragrance programme, as millions of existing customers asked for the Bum Bum scent in wearable perfume format.
Sol de Janeiro fragrances translate the distinctive Bum Bum Cream scent DNA into Eau de Parfum format. Brazilian Crush (2022), using pistachio, salted caramel, jasmine, and vanilla, is the most direct translation of the Bum Bum character — warm, sweet, and Brazilian in its unapologetic gourmand warmth. Cheirosa 62 (2022) — caramel, pistachio, and vanilla musks — extends the franchise into wearable territory with the same sensorial DNA. The house's approach is deliberately accessible and optimistic — fragrances as extensions of the body care experience rather than luxury niche statements.
Brazilian Crush (2022) is Sol de Janeiro's most celebrated fragrance — the pistachio-caramel-jasmine-vanilla composition that finally made the Bum Bum Cream's beloved character available as a wearable EDP. Its warm, unapologetically sweet character has built a devoted following that crosses demographic lines, particularly among Gen-Z buyers discovering fragrance through the brand's body care products.
Sol de Janeiro occupies accessible prestige — EDPs from €50-€75 — with a body-care-first brand DNA and viral marketing that have made the Bum Bum scent family one of the most recognisable olfactive identities in beauty culture.

Sol de Janeiro — Common Questions
What is Sol de Janeiro?
Sol de Janeiro is a Brazilian-inspired beauty brand founded in New York in 2015 by Heela Yang and Marc Capra. The Brazilian Bum Bum Cream — with its distinctive vanilla-caramel-pistachio scent — became a viral sensation, generating enormous social media attention. The fragrance programme followed when millions of body care customers asked for the Bum Bum scent as a wearable perfume.
What does Brazilian Crush smell like?
Brazilian Crush (2022) is a pistachio, salted caramel, jasmine, and vanilla composition — the direct translation of the beloved Bum Bum Cream scent into EDP format. Its warm, unapologetically sweet character is distinctly Brazilian in inspiration: sunlit, sensorial, and joyfully gourmand without being heavy. It has built a devoted following particularly among Gen-Z fragrance enthusiasts who discovered the brand through body care.
How does Sol de Janeiro compare to other gourmand brands?
Sol de Janeiro's gourmand identity is distinct from European gourmand houses — where Mugler's Angel is dark and nocturnal, and Kayali's Vanilla 28 is rich and Middle Eastern, Sol de Janeiro's Bum Bum character is bright, sunlit, and Brazilian in its casual optimism. The caramelised pistachio-vanilla is more playful than enveloping. For buyers who find Angel or Kayali too heavy, Sol de Janeiro's lighter gourmand warmth is often the preferred alternative.
Is Sol de Janeiro more body care or fragrance?
Sol de Janeiro is fundamentally a body care brand whose fragrance programme grew from body care success. The Bum Bum Cream remains their most famous product; the fragrances are extensions of that body care experience into wearable perfume. This origin means their fragrances are designed to complement rather than compete with skin — they work beautifully layered over the body products.
