About Pierre Negrin

Pierre Negrin is a French perfumer born in Grasse. He studied physics and chemistry, then learned perfumery in fragrance laboratories after an internship. In the early 1990s he moved to Mexico and later to the United States. He joined Firmenich's New York Fine Fragrance Center in 2008 and is now with dsm-firmenich. In 1990 the French Society of Perfumers gave him its International Prize for Fragrance Creation.

He favours earthy notes and minimalist structures, and compares perfumery to writing. His best-known creation is Tom Ford Black Orchid (2006). He also made Ralph Lauren Polo Black (2005) and Viktor&Rolf Spicebomb Night Vision Eau de Toilette (2019). He is closely linked with Amouage, where he created Interlude Man (2012), Opus VII Reckless Leather (2013) and Journey Man (2014). Later Amouage work includes Portrayal Woman (2019) and Interlude Black Iris (2020).
