About Jean-Christophe Hérault
Jean-Christophe Hérault is a Paris-based perfumer at IFF, where he was promoted to Vice President Perfumer in 2023. He grew up in France and studied chemistry at university. During an internship at a laboratory in Grasse he met perfumer Pierre Bourdon, who agreed to mentor him. His early work includes Canali Men (2005).
He is drawn to smoky and leathery notes and aims for scents with emotional pull. He has used AI tools in his work while stressing the need for human intuition. He is credited on Creed Aventus (2010), a smoky pineapple and birch scent that became one of the most copied fragrances of its time. He also created Balenciaga Florabotanica (2012) and Viktor&Rolf Spicebomb Extreme (2015). Later work includes Mugler Alien Man (2018), Dolce&Gabbana The One for Men Eau de Parfum Intense (2020) and Coach Open Road (2022).
