About Mark Buxton
Mark Buxton is an English-born perfumer, born in Derby to a British father and a German mother. He grew up mostly in Germany and studied geology in Göttingen for a time. He then trained for three years at the Haarmann & Reimer perfumery school in Holzminden. He has been based in Paris for more than 20 years and designed around 150 fragrances in the industry.
He favours short formulas, which he compares to a jazz trio, and draws on kitchen smells such as herbs, spices and coffee. He made his name with Comme des Garçons, including its first Eau de Parfum (1994) and Comme des Garçons 2 (1999). He also created Le Labo Vetiver 46 (2006) and the Biehl mb series. In 2008 he launched his own line, renamed Mark Buxton Perfumes in 2012.
