About Alexandre Illan
Alexandre Illan is a French perfumer from the South of France who now lives and works in Germany. He is a perfumer at Symrise, which he says gives him freedom to work on projects he enjoys. His clients include Chantal Thomass, Der Duft, IKKS, Thameen and the German band Rammstein. The band approached him in 2017, and its first fragrance arrived in 2019.
Illan adapts closely to each brand's identity. For Rammstein he was asked for something animalic and later built bold marine and metallic compositions. His best-known niche work is Carved Oud for Thameen (2013), with cardamom, pink pepper, cedar, iris, oud and vetiver. He also created Green Pearl for Thameen (2016). His Rammstein scents include Kokain (2019) and Rosenrot (2020).
