Al Haramain Perfumes is one of the most venerable and respected fragrance companies in the Arabian Peninsula, founded in Saudi Arabia in 1970 by Abdul Aziz Ahmed Al Ajmi. With over half a century of continuous operation in the heart of the Islamic world — Saudi Arabia, home to Mecca and Medina — Al Haramain has accumulated an unparalleled institutional knowledge of traditional Arabian perfumery that spans attars, bakhoor, oud, and modern EDP formulations.
The house operates with an in-house perfumery team trained in traditional Saudi Arabian methods alongside collaborations with external fragrance creation houses. Their traditional portfolio — genuine oud attars, natural rose waters, and handcrafted bakhoor — represents authentic Arabian fragrance culture at its most elemental. The modern EDP range has extended their audience to fragrance enthusiasts worldwide who want to experience genuine Arabian fragrance heritage without travelling to the source. The L'Aventure range — launched in 2010 — bridged the gap between traditional Arabian character and contemporary western fresh masculines, becoming the brand's most globally successful composition family.
L'Aventure Pour Homme (2010) is Al Haramain's most globally celebrated fragrance — a fresh, aromatic-woody masculine of bergamot, grapefruit, cardamom, lavender, sandalwood, and musk that the fragrance community embraced for its exceptional quality at an accessible price. Its projection and longevity regularly impress reviewers expecting far less from an Arabian house at its price point. Amber Oud (original) is a rich amber-oud-musk oriental that remains among the most referenced comfortable orientals in the accessible luxury category. Madinah, their collection of traditional Saudi attars, remains beloved by those seeking authentic pre-industrial Arabian fragrance experience.
Al Haramain occupies the accessible luxury tier — EDPs from €30-€80, traditional attars from €20-€150 — with 50 years of Saudi Arabian heritage giving their compositions a geographical authenticity that no newcomer can replicate. Their Hajj and pilgrimage fragrance heritage means their rose waters and attars have been used in the most sacred contexts in Islam, lending the brand a cultural significance beyond mere commercial success.
Every Al Haramain fragrance at The Scent Stories® is 100% authentic, factory-sealed and brand-packaged — sourced from authorised channels and shipped worldwide.
Al Haramain — Common Questions
How old is Al Haramain and where were they founded?
Al Haramain Perfumes was founded in Saudi Arabia in 1970 by Abdul Aziz Ahmed Al Ajmi — making it over 50 years old and one of the oldest continuously operating fragrance companies in the Arabian Peninsula. Founded in the heartland of Islamic fragrance culture, their traditional attars and rose waters have been used in pilgrimage contexts at Mecca and Medina, giving the brand cultural significance beyond commercial success.
What is L'Aventure by Al Haramain?
L'Aventure Pour Homme (2010) is Al Haramain's most globally celebrated modern composition — a fresh aromatic-woody masculine of bergamot, grapefruit, cardamom, lavender, sandalwood, and musk that the fragrance community embraced for exceptional quality at an accessible price point. Its projection and longevity consistently impress reviewers expecting significantly less from an Arabian house in its price range.
Does Al Haramain still make traditional attars?
Yes — traditional attars, bakhoor (incense), and rose waters remain a core part of Al Haramain's identity alongside their modern EDP range. Their Madinah collection of traditional Saudi attars uses genuine Arabian raw materials in formats consistent with pre-industrial Arabian fragrance culture. These traditional products represent authentic fragrance heritage unavailable from Western houses.
How does Al Haramain compare to Rasasi and Arabian Oud in Saudi heritage brands?
All three are major Saudi-heritage fragrance houses with decades of operation. Al Haramain (founded 1970) and Arabian Oud (founded 1982) are the two most historically significant; Rasasi (founded 1979, UAE) has developed stronger international distribution. Al Haramain's pilgrimage heritage gives them a cultural authority in the Saudi market that even Arabian Oud lacks. For traditional attars and bakhoor, Al Haramain and Arabian Oud are the two most authentic choices.
Can I try Al Haramain fragrances as samples?
Yes — The Scent Stories® stocks authentic Al Haramain samples, miniatures, and tester bottles including L'Aventure, Amber Oud, and more. All are factory-sealed and brand-packaged, shipped worldwide.
