About Aurélien Guichard
Aurélien Guichard is a French perfumer born in Grasse, the son of perfumer Jean Guichard. He grew up between his grandparents' jasmine and rose fields in Grasse and city life in Paris. After university in the UK, he trained at the Givaudan Perfumery School in Paris from the age of 21. He works with Takasago on projects for designer brands. In 2019 he launched his own house, Matière Première.
Each Matière Première scent centres on a very high dose of one natural material, supported by a few others. In 2015 he began planting Rose Centifolia on his family's estate in Grasse, which also grows tuberose. His designer work includes Gucci Guilty (2010), Versace Eros (2012) and Narciso Rodriguez Narciso (2013). For his own house he created Néroli Oranger (2019), Radical Rose (2020) and French Flower (2022).
