Amouage was founded in Muscat, Oman in 1983 by His Highness Sayyid Hamad bin Hamad Al Busaidi, a member of the Omani royal family, under the patronage of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. The founding vision was extraordinary: to create a modern luxury fragrance house that would rival the great French maisons while drawing on the extraordinary raw material heritage of the Arabian Peninsula — Omani frankincense, Indian oud, Bulgarian rose, and Taifian jasmine. The current creative director is Renaud Salmon.
