Kate Valentine Brosnahan was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1962 and founded her handbag company Kate Spade New York in 1993 with her then-boyfriend Andy Spade and business partner Elyce Arons. Starting with just six styles of handbags in a functional, architectural design that rejected the heavy logos of 1990s luxury for a more playful, colour-forward aesthetic, Kate Spade rapidly became the definitive American accessible luxury brand for young professional women. Her bags and accessories — recognisable by their clean lines, surprising colours, and witty embellishments — are found on the arms of millions of women across the world. Kate Spade passed away in June 2018; Tapestry Inc. (the parent company of Coach) had acquired the brand for $2.4 billion in 2017. The fragrance programme, in partnership with Coty, launched in 2009.

Sparkling with Joy (2020) brought additional warmth with raspberry, violet, and sandalwood. In Full Bloom (2017) introduced a richer, more sophisticated floral direction.

The bottle, in Kate Spade's signature spotted pattern, is immediately recognisable and consistent with the brand's design identity. In Full Bloom (2017) provides a richer, more sophisticated floral alternative. Walk on Air, the house's first fragrance, established the playful, accessible character that all subsequent compositions have maintained.
