Montblanc International was established in Hamburg in 1906 initially as a pen manufacturer — founded by stationery company owner Alfred Nehemias, banker August Eberstein, and pen-maker Claus-Johannes Voss, who created the first pen capable of flowing reliably without dripping. The iconic Montblanc Meisterstück (Masterpiece) fountain pen, launched in 1924, became one of the most recognisable luxury objects in the world — a symbol of literary achievement, executive power, and refined taste across cultures and decades. The four-pointed white star logo on the cap references the snow-covered peak of Mont Blanc, Europe's highest mountain. Richemont Group acquired Montblanc in 1993. Montblanc fragrances are created through Interparfums licensing with leading commercial perfumers. Legend (2011) — created by Olivier Pescheux and Nathalie Lorson — uses bergamot, lavender, freesia, violet leaf, sandalwood, and coumarin to create a clean, classic masculine of European refinement. Legend EDP (2019) deepened the composition with rose, amber, and woods. Explorer (2019), by Antoine Maisondieu, uses Italian bergamot, vetiver, ambroxan, and cedar in a fresher direction.

Legend (2011) is Montblanc's most celebrated fragrance — a lavender-bergamot-sandalwood masculine that captured the brand's quiet intellectual confidence with unusual precision. Its European refinement without aggression makes it one of the most wearable accessible luxury masculines. Legend EDP (2019) deepened the original into warmer territory. Explorer (2019) provides a fresher outdoor interpretation that references the mountain heritage of the brand's name.
