Amouage

Amouage was founded in Muscat, Oman in 1983 by His Highness Sayyid Hamad bin Hamad Al Busaidi under the patronage of Sultan Qaboos bin Said. The founding vision — to create a modern luxury fragrance house drawing on Arabian Peninsula raw material heritage — produced fragrances described as 'the gift of kings.' Amouage's Omani frankincense, sourced directly from Boswellia trees in Dhofar, is unique in global perfumery. The house is now managed professionally while maintaining its royal connection.

Interlude Man (2012), created by Lucas Sieuzac and Pierre Négrin, is regularly ranked by fragrance critics among the finest 20 fragrances of the modern era. Its achievement is managing extreme compositional complexity — labdanum, incense, frankincense, sandalwood, amber, and unusually challenging medicinal top notes — without losing coherence. The opening is deliberately difficult: smoky, medicinal, almost pharmaceutical. Over 2-3 hours it resolves into extraordinary oriental depth of a kind only the finest raw materials can achieve. It is not immediately pleasant; it is permanently unforgettable.

Amouage worked extensively with Lucas Sieuzac during the Christopher Chong creative directorship (2006-2016), who created Interlude, Jubilation XXV, Epic, and Lyric — collectively regarded as the house's finest creations. Cecile Zarokian created Bracken and Portrayal. Annick Menardo contributed to several compositions. The current creative director Renaud Salmon works with a new generation of perfumers. The house's historical practice of long creative relationships with specific perfumers has produced a catalog of unusual consistency.

All three sit at the summit of luxury niche perfumery. Amouage has the most Arabian heritage — Omani frankincense, oud, and rose give their compositions a Middle Eastern character unavailable elsewhere. Creed has the longest Western tradition (260 years) and the most commercially viral single fragrance (Aventus). Xerjoff has the most Italian opulence — Turin baroque aesthetics in hand-crafted flacons. For the deepest oriental complexity and the most demanding compositional sophistication, Amouage is peerless. Interlude Man is considered by many experts the most complex masculine ever commercially produced.

Yes — The Scent Stories® stocks authentic Amouage samples and miniatures including Interlude, Jubilation XXV, Epic, Reflection, and more. All are factory-sealed and brand-packaged, shipped worldwide. Sampling Amouage before purchase is strongly advised — particularly Interlude, whose challenging opening (medicinal, smoky, initially harsh) gives no indication of the extraordinary depth that emerges over 2-3 hours. Amouage fragrances require patience and in-skin time that paper strips or brief encounters cannot capture.
