Creed

The House of Creed was founded in London in 1760 by James Henry Creed, making it one of the oldest luxury fragrance houses in history — over 260 years. The house relocated to Paris in 1854 and has supplied bespoke fragrances to Empress Eugénie, Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, Edward VII, and Grace Kelly across its history. It was acquired by BlackRock investment in 2023 for a reported $3.5 billion — one of the largest fragrance house acquisitions in history. Erwin Creed, sixth generation, continues as perfumer.

Aventus (2010), created by Erwin and Olivier Creed, is the most discussed and culturally significant masculine fragrance of the 21st century. A composition of pineapple, blackcurrant, bergamot, birch, patchouli, oakmoss, and ambergris, it has been imitated by over 200 fragrances globally and consistently commands secondary market premiums. Its achievement — combining fruity freshness with animalic depth in a structure that smells simultaneously confident, complex, and attractive — has made it the benchmark masculine for the niche fragrance community.

Creed uses the 'infusion method' — steeping raw materials in alcohol over extended periods rather than using industrial extraction techniques. This process, inherited from their origins as 18th century bespoke creators, produces compositions of unusual naturalness and complexity, with multiple olfactive phases that emerge slowly. The method is expensive and time-consuming, but produces fragrances that genuinely evolve over 8-12 hours on skin — revealing different facets at different stages of wear that most extraction-produced fragrances cannot achieve.

All three sit at the summit of luxury niche perfumery at comparable price points, but with different strengths. Creed has the deepest historical heritage (260 years) and the most discussed single fragrance (Aventus). Amouage has the most opulent oriental compositions using genuine Omani frankincense. By Kilian has the most conceptually sophisticated portfolio with the strongest refillable sustainability credentials. Creed is the most mainstream-accessible of the three — Aventus's pineapple-birch character appeals to those new to ultra-luxury niche.

Yes — The Scent Stories® stocks authentic Creed samples and miniatures including Aventus, Green Irish Tweed, Silver Mountain Water, Millesime Imperial, and more. All are factory-sealed and brand-packaged, shipped worldwide. Sampling is particularly important with Creed because different production batches of Aventus have meaningfully different character — understanding the current batch character before purchasing a full bottle at €300+ is genuinely advisable.
