Davidoff

Zino Davidoff was born in Kiev in 1906 and emigrated to Geneva in 1911 where his father Henri established a tobacco shop. After training in Havana's tobacco industry, Zino transformed the family business into the world's most celebrated tobacconist. The fragrance programme launched in 1984 under Coty licensing, with the philosophy of 'slow down and enjoy quality' translated from cigars into scent. Cool Water (1988) became one of the most commercially significant fragrances in history.

Cool Water (1988) was created by Pierre Bourdon — one of perfumery's most revered minds, also responsible for Kouros Fraîcheur. Bourdon built the composition around dihydromyrcenol — a synthetic molecule smelling simultaneously of water, fresh air, and clean linen — combined with lavender, mint, sandalwood, and tobacco. The result created the aquatic masculine genre from scratch. Without Cool Water, there is no Acqua di Giò, no Bleu de Chanel, no Boss Bottled Night, no Sauvage — the entire fresh masculine category of the past 35 years traces its origin to this single composition.

Cool Water has been a continuous global top-ten masculine seller for 35 years — a longevity that only a handful of fragrances in history have achieved. The 2021 reformulation maintained the original formula while achieving 100% natural ingredients. The composition remains genuinely excellent: clean, fresh, distinctively maritime without being overtly synthetic. At its accessible price point, it represents one of the finest quality-to-cost ratios in prestige masculine perfumery.

All three occupy the accessible masculine tier at similar price points, with Boss Bottled and Cool Water being the two longest-running bestsellers in the category. Davidoff's aquatic character (Cool Water) differs from Boss's warm apple-spice-cedar (Boss Bottled) — they are genuinely complementary rather than competitive. Lacoste offers fresh sporty character. Cool Water is arguably the most historically significant of the three; Boss Bottled arguably the most versatile for professional use; Lacoste the most casual.

Yes — The Scent Stories® stocks authentic Davidoff samples, miniatures, and tester bottles including Cool Water, Cool Water Woman, Davidoff Adventure, and more.
