Dunhill

Alfred Dunhill founded his tobacco and accessories business in London in 1893, initially selling motoring accessories and tobacco products before expanding into leather goods and luxury lifestyle objects. The Dunhill man — who combined the pursuits of tobacco, motoring, and refined English living — became a cultural archetype of a certain kind of Edwardian British masculinity: knowledgeable, understated, and committed to quality over ostentation. Dunhill's Mayfair flagship on Jermyn Street, opened in 1907, remains one of London's great retail destinations. Fragrances entered the Dunhill portfolio in the 1970s and have since produced several enduring British masculines that carry the house's DNA of refined confidence.

Dunhill fragrances are created through a licensing partnership with Inter Parfums since 2017 (previously through P&G), working with leading perfumers to maintain the house's English character. Desire (2008) is an amber-oriental masculine that has become the house's most globally recognised fragrance — sandalwood, amber, musk, and tobacco creating a warm, sophisticated character. Driven (2019), created by Loc Dong, introduced a fresh aquatic-woody direction inspired by the connection between Dunhill and British motoring culture. Century (2017), by multiple perfumers working in collaboration, created the house's most conceptually ambitious fragrance — an oud, amber, and wood composition of genuine depth.

Dunhill Desire (2008) remains the house's most commercially consistent performer — a warm amber-sandalwood-tobacco oriental that ages well on skin, developing greater complexity over 4-6 hours. Driven (2019) provides a fresh, modern counterpoint — aquatic, clean, and connecting to the British motoring heritage the brand was built upon. Dunhill for Men (original, 1934) — recreated in various forms across decades — represents the house's historical masculine. Signature Collection fragrances position Dunhill at the upper end of British luxury accessible masculine.

Dunhill occupies accessible luxury — EDTs from €40-€75 — with English heritage and understatement that differentiates it clearly from the more overtly glamorous Italian and French alternatives. The Dunhill customer appreciates quiet confidence over loud announcement — the same values that have distinguished the Jermyn Street shop for 130 years.
