Brioni

Brioni was founded in Rome in 1945 by tailor Nazareno Fonticoli and entrepreneur Gaetano Savini, initially named after the Croatian island of Brijuni where they held their first fashion show in 1952. The house became the world's most exclusive men's tailor — creating bespoke suits by hand requiring up to 35 hours of work each, for clients including Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, John Wayne, and six American presidents. Brioni became the clothier of James Bond across seventeen films between 1995 and 2014. Kering Group acquired Brioni in 2011. Their fragrance programme, launched in 2008, translates the house's extraordinary masculine elegance into scent — fragrances for the man who wears handcrafted suits and has no interest in anything that announces itself loudly.

Brioni fragrances are created with leading perfumers, designed for quiet authority. Brioni Pour Homme (2016), created by Olivier Pescheux, uses bergamot, ginger, cardamom, vetiver, leather, and amberwood to create a refined, sophisticated masculine that mirrors the brand's bespoke tailoring ethos: perfectly constructed, quietly confident, and unmistakably Italian. The collection is small — three compositions — reflecting the brand's philosophy of producing only what is genuinely excellent.

Brioni Pour Homme (2016) is the house's definitive composition — a bergamot-cardamom-leather-vetiver masculine of quiet sophistication by Olivier Pescheux (who also worked on 1 Million). Its character is perfectly consistent with the Brioni client: not seeking attention, simply commanding it. Eau de Brioni (2008) and Brioni Eau de Parfum represent the house's full portfolio — deliberate restraint in a category where volume and variety are typically used to signal commercial success.

Brioni occupies ultra-premium accessible — EDPs from €90-€140 — with a tailoring heritage that gives the house unique authenticity credentials in masculine luxury fragrance. No other accessible masculine brand can claim James Bond and six US presidents as clients.

Every Brioni fragrance at The Scent Stories® is 100% authentic, factory-sealed and brand-packaged — sourced from authorised channels and shipped worldwide.

Brioni — Common Questions

When was Brioni founded?

Brioni was founded in Rome in 1945 by tailor Nazareno Fonticoli and entrepreneur Gaetano Savini. The house became the world's most exclusive men's tailor — handcrafted suits requiring 35 hours of work — for Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, and six American presidents. They clothed James Bond for seventeen films (1995-2014). Kering Group acquired Brioni in 2011. The fragrance programme launched in 2008 with the same quiet authority as the tailoring.

What does Brioni Pour Homme smell like?

Brioni Pour Homme (2016), created by Olivier Pescheux, is a bergamom-ginger-cardamom-vetiver-leather-amberwood masculine of quiet authority. Its character mirrors the Brioni tailoring ethos: perfectly constructed, understated, and unmistakably Italian. It does not announce itself; it is simply noticed. This quality — confidence without performance — makes it unusual in the masculine category where most fragrances are designed to project aggressively.

Is James Bond associated with Brioni?

Yes — Brioni clothed James Bond across seventeen films between 1995 and 2014, including the Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig eras. This association — with the world's most famous character defined by masculine elegance under pressure — is deeply embedded in the brand's identity. Their fragrances carry the same 007-adjacent character: sophisticated, composed, and impeccably finished.

How does Brioni compare to Armani and Boss in masculine luxury?

Brioni, Armani, and Boss all represent masculine luxury fragrance but from different positions. Brioni is the most exclusively tailoring-heritage — hand-stitched suits, presidential clients, Bond films. Armani is the most globally commercial — Acqua di Giò has dressed more men. Boss is the most executive-mainstream. Brioni's extremely small portfolio (three compositions) versus Armani's and Boss's dozens reflects deliberate restraint rather than limited ambition.
