Chopard

Chopard was founded by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in Sonvilier in the Swiss Jura mountains in 1860, initially producing watches and precision instruments for the pocket watch trade. The Scheufele family acquired Chopard in 1963 and began the transformation from movement manufacturer to full luxury jeweller and watchmaker — a process that produced the brand's most iconic creations: the Happy Diamonds watch (1976), with freely floating diamonds between sapphire crystals, and the Fleur de Lys jewellery collection. The fragrance programme was established in the 1990s, extending Chopard's philosophy of joyful luxury and fine craftsmanship into olfactive territory. The brand produces fragrances under its own direction, often in collaboration with Interparfums.

Chopard fragrances are developed in partnership with leading perfumers and fragrance houses. Happy by Chopard (2000), the brand's most recognisable fragrance, was created using bergamot, yellow orange blossom, grapefruit, white cedar, and woody musks to create a bright, optimistic feminine that directly translated the Happy Diamonds concept into scent — the idea of joy as a physical sensation. Casmir (1992), one of the brand's first fragrances, was created with a rich oriental of bergamot, nutmeg, peach, rose, and sandalwood over vanilla and amber that remains a benchmark comfortable oriental. Wish (1999) brought a softer floral-amber direction.

Happy by Chopard (2000) has maintained consistent global sales for over 20 years, becoming the brand's most recognisable fragrance — a bright, sunny citrus-floral-woody composition that translated the visual identity of the Happy Diamonds watch collection directly into scent. Its optimistic brightness has made it a perennial gift choice, particularly in Asian markets where the concept of happiness as a tangible commodity resonates deeply. Casmir (1992) remains among the finest accessible luxury orientals from any Swiss house — its bergamot-peach-rose-sandalwood-vanilla structure is genuinely comfortable and complex. Love by Chopard (2009), a rose-violet-sandalwood feminine, demonstrated the house's range.

Chopard occupies accessible luxury — EDPs from €60-€95 — with Swiss precision craftsmanship adding authenticity that comparable-priced Italian or French fashion house fragrances often lack. The Happy Diamonds DNA — diamonds floating freely as a symbol of joy rather than status — gives the fragrance programme an emotional philosophy beyond mere lifestyle aspiration.
