Dolce & Gabbana

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana met in 1980 while working for Milanese designer Giorgio Correggiari and founded their own label in 1985, debuting at Milan Fashion Week in January 1986. The partnership — for many years personally as well as professionally intertwined — forged a creative vision grounded in their shared Sicilian heritage: excess, sensuality, religious iconography, and the unapologetic celebration of the Italian South. Their fashion became global shorthand for Mediterranean glamour, worn by Monica Bellucci, Madonna, and Kylie Minogue. The perfume business has become one of the most profitable aspects of their empire, operated under a licensing partnership with Procter & Gamble.

The D&G fragrance programme employs perfumers of the highest calibre. Light Blue (2001) was created by Olivier Cresp — the same perfumer responsible for Angel and Acqua di Giò — using Sicilian cedrat lemon, Granny Smith apple, bamboo, jasmine, white rose, cedar, and musk to create the definitive Mediterranean summer fragrance. The One (2006) and The One for Men (2008) were created by Loc Dong and Michel Almairac respectively, establishing a richer, more oriental counterpoint to Light Blue's aquatic freshness. K by Dolce & Gabbana (2019) was a collaboration with Alberto Morillas.

Light Blue (2001) is the house's defining commercial achievement — one of the bestselling fragrances in history, with Scarlett Johansson and David Gandy as faces across multiple campaigns. Its sequel Light Blue Forever (2021) introduced a warmer base for cooler months. The One (2006) — a softer floral-oriental of bergamot, lychee, lily, and tobacco — became the house's prestige feminine. The One Gentleman (2010) brings together grapefruit, basil, ginger, and tobacco leaf in a composition beloved by male fragrance enthusiasts for its unusual character. K by Dolce & Gabbana, a vertiver-iris-leather masculine, demonstrated the house's ability to create genuinely sophisticated compositions beyond Light Blue's commercial template.

Dolce & Gabbana occupies accessible luxury — EDPs ranging from €65-€110 — directly comparable to Versace and Coach, but with stronger Italian brand heritage. Their customer appreciates glamour and sunlit sensuality over minimalism or restraint.
