Christian Louboutin

Christian Louboutin was born in Paris in 1964 and discovered his passion for shoes at the age of twelve when he saw a sign at the Musée des Arts Africains et Océaniens forbidding women's stilettos on the parquet floors. He began making shoes while still a teenager, apprenticing at the Folies Bergère and working for Roger Vivier, Charles Jourdan, and Chanel before opening his first boutique in Paris in 1991. The signature red lacquered sole — introduced in 1992 when Louboutin applied red nail polish to the sole of a prototype — became one of the most imitated and legally defended design elements in fashion history, ultimately recognised as a valid trademark by the French courts. His shoes have been worn by every major actress, royalty across multiple kingdoms, and the most powerful women in global culture.

Christian Louboutin fragrances are developed in partnership with top perfumers and housed in extraordinary sculptural flacons that are as much works of art as fragrance containers. Bikini Questa Sera (2012) — inspired by the Italian coast and created as the house's debut — uses bergamot, jasmine, sandalwood, and amber to create a sun-warmed, sensual Mediterranean composition. Loubiraj (2013), an oud-incense-rose composition, brings Arabic luxury into the Louboutin aesthetic. The Palais Royal collection (2016-2019), featuring compositions by multiple perfumers in extravagant sculptural flacons, established the house's position at the absolute summit of collectible luxury fragrance objects.

The Louboutin fragrance flacons are among the most extraordinary in luxury fragrance — sculptural, jewel-encrusted, and designed with the same theatrical extravagance as the shoes. Each bottle from the Palais Royal collection is a hand-crafted collectible object; many are displayed without being worn. Caravane (2016), with oud, rose, cardamom, and leather, is the house's most critically admired composition — a Middle Eastern-influenced masculine of genuine depth. Bikini Questa Sera remains the most accessible and wearable entry point.

Christian Louboutin fragrances occupy ultra-luxury — EDPs from €200-€400, Palais Royal collection from €350-€600+ — with the flacon as an equal proposition to the fragrance. No other house at any price point offers more extraordinary bottle design as part of the luxury fragrance experience.
