Moncler

Moncler was founded in Monestier-de-Clermont, France (the 'Mon-Cler' contraction) in 1952 by René Ramillon and André Vincent as an outdoor equipment company creating quilted sleeping bags and tents for Alpine mountaineers. Their quilted down jackets — originally workwear for factory workers operating in freezing conditions — were adopted by the French Olympic ski team in 1968 and by high-altitude mountaineers including the 1954 Karakoram expedition that first summited K2. Remo Ruffini acquired the brand in 2003 and transformed it from a functional outerwear manufacturer into one of the most sought-after luxury fashion brands in the world, with their signature quilted down jacket becoming a global status symbol. The fragrance programme, launched in 2016, translates the brand's Alpine luxury identity into olfactive territory.

Moncler fragrances are created through Interparfums working with leading perfumers. Moncler Pour Homme (2016), using bergamot, leather, woods, and musk, captures the brand's Alpine luxury character — the sensation of cold mountain air and warm quilted cashmere. Moncler Pour Femme (2016) provides a crisp, floral feminine counterpart. Moncler Collection (2020) expanded into warmer oriental directions for both genders.

Moncler Pour Homme (2016) is the house's most successful masculine — a bergamot-leather-wood composition that achieves the olfactive equivalent of their quilted jacket: luxury warmth in an outdoor context. The Alpine heritage is palpable without resorting to obvious pine or snow accords. Moncler Pour Femme provides a fresher, more clearly feminine parallel.

Moncler occupies premium accessible luxury — EDPs from €80-€120 — with Alpine luxury heritage giving the fragrances an outdoor-meets-luxury character distinctive from urban fashion house competitors.

Every Moncler fragrance at The Scent Stories® is 100% authentic, factory-sealed and brand-packaged — sourced from authorised channels and shipped worldwide.

Moncler — Common Questions

When was Moncler founded?

Moncler was founded in France in 1952 by René Ramillon and André Vincent, producing Alpine outdoor equipment. Their quilted down jackets were worn by the French Olympic ski team in 1968 and by K2 mountaineers. Remo Ruffini acquired the brand in 2003 and transformed it into a global luxury status symbol, with the quilted jacket becoming one of the most recognisable luxury items in the world.

What does Moncler Pour Homme smell like?

Moncler Pour Homme (2016) uses bergamot, leather, woods, and musk to create the olfactive equivalent of their quilted down jacket: luxury warmth in a mountain-outdoor context. The Alpine heritage is present without obvious pine or snow clichés — instead, the leather-bergamot-wood structure creates a cold-air-meets-warm-cashmere effect that is distinctive in the accessible masculine category.

How does Moncler compare to Canada Goose and Stone Island in outdoor-luxury fragrance?

Moncler is the only outdoor-luxury brand with a significant fragrance programme at this level. Canada Goose and Stone Island have not developed comparable fragrance lines. This makes Moncler unique in the market: an outdoor heritage brand with genuine Alpine history translated into luxury fragrance. The closest comparable aesthetic is arguably Arc'teryx or Patagonia-inspired fragrances from niche houses, but Moncler's direct Alpine heritage is more authentic than any lifestyle interpretation.

Are Moncler fragrances long-lasting?

Moncler fragrances offer good longevity for their accessible price point — typically 7-9 hours on skin with moderate projection. The leather and wood base notes provide good staying power, while the bergamot opening creates initial freshness that mellows into the warmer woody base over time.
