Vilhelm Parfumerie

Vilhelm Parfumerie was founded in Stockholm in 2014 by Jan Vilhelm Ahlgren, a Stockholm native with a background in music and the arts. The brand's founding philosophy places fragrance within a broader cultural context — each composition is inspired by a specific cultural reference, whether literary, musical, or experiential — and the brand's Scandinavian aesthetic (clean, intelligent, slightly melancholic) informs both the visual identity and the olfactive approach. The house works with leading perfumers to create compositions that function as olfactive artworks rather than lifestyle accessories.

Vilhelm Parfumerie works with top-tier independent perfumers. Mango Skin (2019), created by Jordi Fernandez, is the house's most celebrated composition — a mango, musk, and sandalwood composition that became a fragrance community phenomenon for its ability to perfectly capture the smell of ripe mango on warm skin without any tropical cliché. Room Service (2015) — violet, plum, musk, and ambrette — is an intimate, sleepy room composition of extraordinary wearability. Like Myths (2016), by Jordi Fernandez, uses orris, rose, and cedar in a romantic, dusty floral.

Mango Skin (2019) is Vilhelm Parfumerie's most celebrated composition and one of the most-discussed fruity fragrances in contemporary niche. Jordi Fernandez's mango-musk-sandalwood creation achieves perfect mango ripeness without resorting to tropical sweetness or synthetic candy — the result is genuinely complex and skin-like. Room Service (2015) provides a different kind of intimacy — a violet-plum-musk composition inspired by the particular atmosphere of a hotel room on a rainy afternoon.

Vilhelm Parfumerie occupies premium accessible niche — EDPs from €130-€180 for 100ml — with a Scandinavian cultural intelligence and fragrance community word-of-mouth that have built significant global awareness from a small Stockholm house.

Vilhelm Parfumerie — Common Questions

When was Vilhelm Parfumerie founded?

Vilhelm Parfumerie was founded in Stockholm in 2014 by Jan Vilhelm Ahlgren, with a philosophy of placing fragrance within broader cultural context — each composition inspired by a literary, musical, or experiential reference. The Scandinavian aesthetic — clean, intelligent, slightly melancholic — informs both the visual identity and the olfactive approach, making Vilhelm one of the most distinctively Nordic voices in contemporary niche perfumery.

What is Mango Skin?

Mango Skin (2019), created by Jordi Fernandez, is Vilhelm Parfumerie's most celebrated composition — a mango, musk, and sandalwood fragrance that became a fragrance community phenomenon for perfectly capturing ripe mango on warm skin without tropical cliché or synthetic candy character. Its skin-like warmth and fruit-forward character is simultaneously accessible and technically sophisticated, explaining its sustained community enthusiasm since launch.

Who creates Vilhelm Parfumerie fragrances?

Vilhelm Parfumerie works with top-tier independent perfumers including Jordi Fernandez (who created Mango Skin and Like Myths) and others. Fernandez has also created Nice Bergamote for Essential Parfums and is recognised for compositions of unusual transparency and botanical precision. This access to skilled independent perfumers at a premium-accessible price point is consistent with the Scandinavian accessible-quality philosophy.

How does Vilhelm Parfumerie compare to Byredo in Scandinavian niche?

Both are Scandinavian niche houses founded in the 2010s with strong aesthetic identities and premium accessible pricing. Byredo (Stockholm-born Ben Gorham, 2006) has significantly stronger global brand recognition through celebrity associations and fashion collaborations. Vilhelm Parfumerie is newer and more artistically introspective — Mango Skin's composition quality has driven community word-of-mouth rather than celebrity marketing. For pure composition quality, Mango Skin competes with Byredo's best work.

Can I try Vilhelm Parfumerie fragrances as samples?

Yes — The Scent Stories® stocks authentic Vilhelm Parfumerie samples and miniatures including Mango Skin, Room Service, Like Myths, and more. All are factory-sealed and brand-packaged, shipped worldwide.
