Elie Saab

Elie Saab was born in Damour, Lebanon in 1964 and began sewing at age nine, opening his first atelier in Beirut at eighteen with a team of twenty seamstresses. He became the first non-Italian designer invited to join Italy's Camera Nazionale della Moda, and the first Arab couturier to dress the Academy Awards when Halle Berry wore his burgundy embroidered gown to collect her Best Actress Oscar in 2002 — a moment that catapulted him to global fame. His designs for Queen Rania of Jordan, Princess Victoria of Sweden, and Beyoncé established him as the world's premier architect of the modern princess gown. Despite his Beirut base and Arab identity, Saab's aesthetic is profoundly Western in its execution — structured couture with Middle Eastern opulence in embellishment, a fusion that has made him uniquely positioned between two luxury worlds. His fragrance programme, launched in 2011 in partnership with Beauté Prestige International (a Shiseido subsidiary), translates this luminous femininity into scent.

Elie Saab Le Parfum (2011) was created by Francis Kurkdjian — the same perfumer responsible for Narciso Rodriguez For Her's genre-defining musk architecture — in what became his most commercially successful non-house commission. The brief was demanding: to capture the luminous quality of Saab's couture in scent — the feeling of white light refracting through silk organza on a bride's morning. Kurkdjian achieved this through orange blossom, white rose, patchouli, cedar, and a clean musk structure that manages to feel simultaneously bridal and contemporary. Subsequent fragrances have been created by other perfumers: Rose Couture (2015) by Juliette Karagueuzoglou, Girl of Now (2017) by Nathalie Lorson, Girl of Now Lovely by Laurent Bruyère.

Rose Couture (2015) — a deeper, more explicitly rose-centred interpretation — became the brand's second bestseller for its accessibility. Girl of Now (2017) introduced a younger, more playful direction with pineapple, rose, and vetiver. Le Parfum Essentiel, launched in 2021, created a warmer, more enveloping interpretation of the original.
