Guess

Guess was founded in Los Angeles in 1981 by the four Marciano brothers — Maurice, Paul, Georges, and Armand — Algerian immigrants of Sephardic Jewish heritage who revolutionised denim marketing with their iconic Claudia Schiffer campaign (1989) that made the Guess question mark logo one of the most recognisable in American fashion. From jeans and denim, Guess expanded into watches, accessories, and fragrance — building a lifestyle brand that has sold over $2.5 billion in products annually. The fragrance programme, launched in the 1990s and managed through a Coty licensing partnership, produces accessible lifestyle fragrances consistent with the brand's glamorous, California-Riviera aesthetic.

Guess fragrances are created through Coty's working relationships with commercial perfumers, with the brand's glamorous, beach-party, aspirational-Californian identity informing each composition. Guess (original feminine, 1991) established the brand's warm, fresh floral aesthetic. Seductive (2011), using neroli, jasmine, and musk over warm woods, became the brand's most commercially consistent modern feminine. Guess Night Pour Homme (2016) — bergamot, black pepper, leather, and vetiver — is the house's most sophisticatedly masculine composition.

Guess Seductive (2011) has become the house's most enduring modern feminine — a fresh neroli-jasmine-musk composition with warm wood base that balances beach-resort freshness with accessible warmth. For women, Guess 1981 (2017) introduced a warmer, more contemporary direction. For men, Guess 1981 Los Angeles (2019) provided a fresh citrus-aromatic with magnetic projection. The consistent quality of Guess fragrances relative to their accessible price makes them particularly popular in South Asia and the Middle East where their Californian glamour aesthetic resonates strongly.

Guess occupies accessible prestige — EDPs from €40-€65 — with Californian glamour aesthetics and Coty production quality delivering consistently pleasant fragrances at competitive prices.
