Gianni Versace founded his fashion house in Milan in 1978 with a debut women's collection for Genny, before establishing his own label at Via della Spiga. A Calabrian-born designer of extraordinary instinct, Versace built an empire on the tension between high culture and street glamour — his Medusa-head logo, gold chain motifs, and boldly printed silk were worn by Elton John, Princess Diana, Michael Jackson, and Madonna simultaneously. He was tragically shot outside his Miami mansion on 14 July 1997; his sister Donatella assumed creative control and has maintained the house's maximalist DNA. Capri Holdings acquired Versace in December 2018 for $2.12 billion.

Versace fragrances are created under the direction of Donatella Versace and a team at perfumers including Daphné Bugey and Guillaume Flavigny, with the fragrance portfolio managed in partnership with Euroitalia. The house's olfactive signature mirrors its fashion — bold, unapologetic, and designed to announce a presence rather than whisper. Key raw materials include aquatic accords, sweet musks, amber, and Mediterranean citrus, reflecting the brand's southern Italian heritage and affinity for sunlit glamour.

Four fragrances have defined Versace's commercial fragrance legacy. Eros EDP (2012) — a bold composition of mint, green apple, lemon, tonka bean, geranium, and ambroxan — became one of the bestselling masculine fragrances in history within five years of launch; actor Zac Efron serves as its face. Bright Crystal (2006), created by Olivier Cresp with notes of pomegranate, peony, and magnolia over musk, is Versace's most enduring feminine and has sold over 50 million units globally. Crystal Noir (2004), a dark gardenia-musk oriental, remains a critical favourite for its sophistication relative to price. Dylan Blue Pour Homme (2016), a citrus-woody aquatic, won the FiFi Award for Men's Prestige in 2017.

Versace occupies the accessible luxury segment — mainline EDPs range from €55-€100 for 100ml, making them among the most competitive values in prestige perfumery. They are comparable to Dolce & Gabbana and Jean Paul Gaultier in commercial positioning, but Versace's stronger brand recognition gives their fragrances cultural status that extends beyond the fragrance community.

Every Versace fragrance at The Scent Stories® is 100% authentic, factory-sealed and brand-packaged — sourced from authorised channels and shipped worldwide.

Versace — Common Questions

When was Versace founded?

Gianni Versace founded his fashion house in Milan in 1978. The brand became globally iconic through its association with 1990s superculture — Gianni dressed everyone from Princess Diana to Madonna. Following Gianni's tragic death in 1997, his sister Donatella Versace took over creative direction and has maintained the house's bold identity. Capri Holdings acquired Versace in 2018 for $2.12 billion.

What is Versace's most famous fragrance?

Versace Eros EDP (2012) is the house's most commercially successful fragrance — a bold mint-apple-tonka-ambroxan composition with actor Zac Efron as face, which became one of the world's bestselling masculine fragrances within five years. Bright Crystal (2006) is their top-selling feminine, a pomegranate-peony-magnolia composition that has sold over 50 million units globally. Dylan Blue won the FiFi Award for Men's Prestige in 2017.

Are Versace fragrances long-lasting?

Versace EDP formulations are well-regarded for longevity — Eros EDP typically delivers 10-14 hours on skin with strong sillage, while Bright Crystal offers 6-8 hours of moderate projection. The Parfum concentrations (Eros Parfum, Bright Crystal Parfum) provide even greater intensity and projection for those who want maximum performance.

How do Versace fragrances compare to other Italian luxury brands?

Versace sits in the accessible luxury tier alongside Dolce & Gabbana and Armani Exchange — more affordable than Giorgio Armani's premium lines or Prada, but with strong brand recognition and good quality. Compared to Bulgari, Versace fragrances are bolder and more commercially focused; Bulgari tends toward refined minimalism. Versace's strength is uncompromised confidence in composition and marketing.

Can I try Versace fragrances as samples before buying?

Yes — The Scent Stories® stocks authentic Versace samples, miniatures, and tester bottles including Eros, Bright Crystal, Dylan Blue, Crystal Noir, and more. All are factory-sealed and brand-packaged originals. Given the range of Versace's olfactive styles — from the bold aquatic freshness of Eros to the dark oriental of Crystal Noir — sampling multiple fragrances before choosing is worthwhile.
